Female Infertility

From SNPedia

While some causes of female infertility have no genetic basis, others are more likely to be genetically determined. For example, certain medical conditions that reduce fertility – including uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - have an inherited component.[PMID 25506236OA-icon.png]

As might be expected from a condition like infertility that has strong natural selection working against it, the genetic causes are likely to be rare, and, diverse. Nonetheless, a 2018 review of the most common autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant single-gene disorders involved in human infertility (both male and female) focused on the following genes: CFTR, SPATA16, AURKC, CATSPER1, GNRHR, MTHFR, SYCP3, SOX9, WT1 and NR5A1.[PMID 30108436OA-icon.png]
