Emphysema

Emphysema is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that involves destruction of the air sacs in the lungs. Smoking is the main cause, but nonsmokers who carry SNPs associated with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency may also develop emphysema.
