Y chromosome haplogroup O3 originates 10k to 30k years ago in China or perhaps Southeast Asia. Its spread is conjectured to be closely associated with the sudden agricultural boom associated with rice farming. Population frequencies are high at 70% among Miao with 32.5%-80% among some Han, Koreans 32%-47% and Japanese 16%.
