Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine. The major types of IBD are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
GWAS of IBD have implicated over 100 risk loci with partial overlap between the subtypes of IBD [1] Polymorphisms in the cytokine, cytokine receptors, interleukin and interleukin receptor genes have been associated with a small amount the variance in IBD.
