LSAMP encodes limbic-system associated membrane protein.
[PMID 18318786] - A 'novel alternative transcript' haplotype within LSAMP associated with left-main coronary artery disease. LSAMP function was determined to be relevant to smooth muscle cell proliferation, as blocking it entirely led to greatly increased smooth muscle cell proliferation in human aortic SMCs. rs1676232(A) and rs4404477(A), among others, appear to denote this haplotype (see AEHA 2008 ppt, or a google search for a more applicable patent)
[PMID 18433483] possible association with suicide, although the SNPs found (rs2918215, rs2918213, rs9874470, rs4821129, all major alleles) to be associated did not survive multiple correction, and no haploblocks exhibited statistical significance.
