Lasik

LASIK or Lasik (Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis), commonly referred to as laser eye surgery or laser vision correction, is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism. The LASIK surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist who uses a laser or microkeratome to reshape the eye's cornea in order to improve visual acuity. Lasik can lead to significant eye problems for individuals with at least two inherited corneal dystrophy conditions, keratoconus, the most common type, and, the Avellino type (of corneal dystrophy). Therefore, individuals with SNP variants associated with these condition are generally not recommended for Lasik surgeries. Lasik procedures are also not recommended for patients with Sjögren's syndrome.[PMID 23152662]

There is also a list of additional conditions, some of which are inherited but most of which are acquired, which the FDA indicates are contraindicated for Lasik in general [1]. These include autoimmune disease, collagen vascular disease, and immunodeficiency disease.
