Ziagen

Ziagen is the trade name of an antiviral drug used primarily to treat HIV+ and AIDS patients. The generic name is abacavir; it is also prescribed in the combination formulations Trizivir (abacavir, zidovudine and lamivudine) and Kivexa/Epzicom. The primary contraindication is a hypersensitive reaction that is likely to be genetic and can be severe. SNPs associated with the hypersensitive reaction are:
