The AGTR1 gene encodes the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, also known as AT2R1 or AT1R. This receptor modulates the actions of angiotensin II, and is quite polymorphic, with over 50 described SNPs. These SNPs have the potential to affect susceptibility to hypertension and related disorders, such as heart disease, as well as resistance to drugs taken to combat hypertension.[PMID 15640279]
