A variation in the ANG (angiogenin) gene, rs11701, appears to be associated with ALS in Scottish and Irish populations, although not in several other populations tested, including the U.S.(Boston), England, and Sweden [PMID 16501576].
[PMID 15557516] In Irish ALS patients, there was a significant allelic association with the rs11701 SNP & a new mutation (K40I) that potentially inhibits angiogenin function.
