CRP gene codes for C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation.
C-reactive protein (CRP) gene polymorphisms, CRP levels and risk of incident essential hypertension: findings from an observational cohort of Han Chinese. (2012). [1] Plasma CRP levels were independently associated with the development of hypertension. The minor alleles of rs1130864 (P<0.001) and rs3093059 (P<0.001) were significantly associated with elevated CRP levels. Plasma CRP levels were substantially associated with common genetic variants in the CRP gene and can predict the development of hypertension.
