Peripheral arterial disease

From SNPedia

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and peripheral artery occlusive disease (PAOD). There are numerous causes, including atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, and possibly inflammation. Genetic susceptibility, exercise, smoking, hypertension, and diet all influence a person's risk of developing PAD and associated conditions such as intermittent claudication and gangrene. About 20 percent of Americans over age 70 have PAD, although fewer than half of this group show symptoms. Wikipedia, Mayo Clinic
