High blood pressure
Genetic variation associated with high blood pressure can be divided into
- SNPs that can predispose an individual to hypertension under some or all conditions
- SNPs in genes that play in role in how drugs commonly used to treat hypertension, such as ACE Inhibitors, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and diuretics, are used by the body

SNPs that may predispose individuals to high blood pressure include:
- 6 SNPs from a recent (2007) large study [PMID 17554300]:
- 4 SNPs from three loci studied in a Japanese population [PMID 18003638]:
- [PMID 16565233] A -318 C>G single-nucleotide polymorphism in the GNAI2 gene promoter region is associated with high blood pressure in Caucasians from Italy. Note: this SNP does not appear to have a corresponding entry in dbSNP.
- rs1799983 is a SNP in the NOS3 gene that reflects a 2x higher risk of developing hypertension during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia). [PMID 11745998] This is true for carriers of one or two risk alleles.
SNPs possibly affecting beta blocker therapy for hypertension include:
